How to Handle Q&A Sessions in Virtual Events

Isn’t it interesting how some of the most thrilling moments can spring from the unexpected?

Like that time my seven-year-old niece decided to test her newfound interview skills on me at a family gathering. With a makeshift microphone, she bombarded me with questions, some amusingly innocent, others surprisingly profound.

And that, my friends, is quite similar to handling Q&A sessions in virtual events.

First and foremost, you need to be prepared. Just like I entertained my niece’s curiosity by answering questions about my favorite color and why I choose to write for a living, be ready to answer questions related to your webinar topic.

Research possible queries, understand your material thoroughly, and keep your responses informative and concise.

And yet, be ready for the curveballs. Just like I was thrown off guard when my niece suddenly asked, “Why is the sky blue?” (a science lesson she proudly conducted afterward), some questions will catch you by surprise.

Embrace these moments. It shows the level of engagement of your audience, and their will to delve deeper into the topic.

Don’t shy away from saying, “I don’t know.”

It’s better to admit it rather than providing incorrect information.

Promise to get back with the right answer, and make sure you follow through.

Finally, remember to create a welcoming and respectful environment. Ensure every participant feels their questions are valued. Just as I thanked my little niece for her questions and her lively curiosity, acknowledge your attendees’ inquiries and encourage further interaction.

Handling Q&A sessions in virtual events can be quite an adventure, filled with moments of connection, learning, and sometimes, pleasant surprises.
